This year’s Royal Three Counties Show celebrated over 8,000 of the region’s finest animals, and a programme of family fun across three days with 92,000 people attending the show.
Highlights included special guests Clarkson’s Farm’s Kaleb Cooper, Springwatch’s Kate Humble, former JLS bandmember and farmer JB Gill, Ally Hunter Blair, Adam Henson and Saturday Kitchen’s chef Matt Tebbutt joining farmers and industry experts in the Future of Farming Theatre sponsored by Virgin Money and Lightsource bp, over 100 free activities for children on site, and the Cotswold Corner Showjumping Ring bringing the equine action up close to visitors.
There was non-stop live entertainment with daring parachute displays wowing visitors with The Red Devils Parachute Display Team and Jump Dogs. The new, larger Forestry area showcased talented chainsaw carving and pole climbing competitions, families cheered on competitors at the STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® Arena, and the Bolddogs Lings motorcycle display team performed nail-biting stunts. Visitors wanting a ring-side view of the action took a seat at the Old Bull Bar sponsored by Wye Valley Brewery and Westons, for a refreshing drink.
The Food and Drink Festival, supported by Hawkstone, was buzzing with artisan producers, the cider & perry awards, new English Wine Show and garden, and an expanded selection of delicious local street food vendors. The theatre itself was full of foodie discussions from our special guests like Matt Tebbutt, and others who joined ‘Murf’ from The Beefy Boys for live-fire BBQ competitions. Parents and children also had the opportunity to participate in the Burger Masterclass for Father’s Day, Sunday, 15 June.
As well as cutting-edge farm machinery, countryside shopping was expanded this year with brands Fairfax & Favor and Whale of a Time taking centre stage in the Royal Parade. A brand-new Home and Heritage Zone showcased ancient countryside conservation crafts such as stone carving, timber framing, thatching and blacksmithing, alongside a long list of rural crafters.
For animal lovers, the Attwell Farm Park Petting Zone offered younger visitors the chance to get up close and personal with a selection of farmyard animals right next to the Livestock Showing and Sheep Shearing action. With 9,500 prizes awarded across more than 1,500 competitions, Royal Three Counties Show is the largest livestock and equine show in the country.
The Countryside Arena offered a programme of family-fun, featuring shire horse demonstrations alongside gun dog and bird of prey displays, while the infamous Grand Parade of Livestock with Adam Henson, showcased the very best prize-winning livestock, including rare and endangered breeds, around the Main Arena.
Alice Arnold, Show Manager of Royal Three Counties Show, commented “We are delighted with how Royal Three Counties Show brings top-quality livestock and family entertainment together for a three-day countryside extravaganza each year. Families are able to see a huge range of features and have a one-of-a-kind day out together, from trying new foods in the Food and Drink Festival and seeing thrilling Main Arena entertainment, to chic countryside shopping.
We’re also proud to bring the very best livestock and equine showing to our visitors, enabling visitors to immerse themselves in the farming community and see rare and traditional breeds of sheep, cattle and pigs as well as top-quality equine competitions. It takes thousands of staff and volunteers to pull the show together, and we’re very thankful for their contribution.”
